Lost in the Wood(s) Seminar & Book Launch

Lost in the Wood(s) is a new book on the circular economy by Aalto ARTS Books.

Pirjo Kääriäinen and Liisa Tervinen have edited a collection of interesting cases on renewable biomaterials such as cellulose, entitled, Lost in the Wood(s). In it top science, business and design professionals explain how to create new business and service models for society through design and collaboration.

This seminar presented at the Design Museum will look at the question of how Finnish natural  renewable biomaterials - such as cellulose - might replace more oil-based resources?  The book presents inspiring cases and stories by researchers working with biomaterials. Through these cases, they suggest how a more sustainable future could be achieved, full details online.

You can also visit the New Biomateriality Lab, Enter and Encounter exhibition in the museum for a presentation in new Finnish biomaterials, mainly based on wood. All materials have been invented and produced in multidisciplinary research projects in Aalto University.

The exhibition is coordinated by Aalto University’s CHEMARTS collaboration and participating projects are DWoC, NoMa, Hiilinielu Designstudio and Trash2Cash. The main partners are Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Technical University of Tampere, Universities of Applied Sciences in Lahti and Tampere, University of Vaasa and Design Forum Finland, in collaboration with various companies, funded by Tekes and EU.
