Aalto Wood Seminar: sustainable materials for energy-efficient houses

The Town House and Wood Life projects will present the outcomes of their research. The seminar will include talks on sustainable materials and sustainable housing.

18.08.2017 / 08:30 - 14:00
seminar hall U340, Otakaari 1, 02150, Espoo, FI

Dear friends,

Increasingly we are becoming aware of the need to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. Since buildings account for a significant proportion of global primary energy use, major efforts are these days being directed towards improving their energy-efficiency. The aim of two projects that were funded by the Aalto Energy Efficiency Research Programme (AEF) was to help tackle this problem. The Town House and Wood Life projects (2013-2017) will present the outcomes of their research in an Aalto Wood seminar aimed at architects, construction specialists, policymakers, researchers and others with an interest in reducing the global impact of buildings.

The seminar will include talks on two topics: sustainable materials and sustainable housing.

Sustainable materials: Recent scientific findings on topics including how wood can be used to passively control the interior climate of buildings, the development of sustainable coating systems and how people perceive wood-based materials.

Sustainable housing: New housing types can support sustainable living and customer wishes while aiming at nearly zero energy consumption, a low carbon footprint and moderate life cycle costs.

The seminar will also provide an opportunity to discuss how the findings might be implemented in practical situations and help set the agenda for future research and development needs.

The seminar is free of charge thanks to support from the Aalto University Energy Platform.

How to find the seminar hall U340 (it is quite hidden and NOT in any maps!):

From the ground floor entrance near "Mellin" lecture hall, coming from outdoors take the first right glass door entrance, take the elevator to 3rd floor, and turn left.

Simple versio: Find Mellin lecture hall in the ground floor and we have signs from there.
