Results from the 21st international IFHP Summer School in Urban Planning and Design
Is it possible to find urban planning solutions that can both save natural resources and improve urban environments? Can social cohesion and diversity be simultaneously achieved? We welcome you to come and hear how international students and young professionals would shape existing places and make new spaces in Kotka and Turku.

The summer school in brief
Around 40 students from a variety of planning backgrounds are yearly invited to join the two-week summer school event arranged by Aalto University and Tampere Technical University in collaboration with IFHP International Federation of Housing and Planning. At the beginning of the course the students arrive in Helsinki, and take part in lectures about the Finnish context of planning and the yearly theme of the summer school. During the Helsinki-day the city of Helsinki presents the city and current planning cases in the city. The core of the summer school is the active period of nine days in two workshop cities in Finland. In these cities participants are invited to analyse existing conditions of a planning area and to suggest innovative and realistic improvements under the supervision of experienced planners and other experts of urban studies. The final proposals are presented to decision-makers, the general public and the local press. The summer school webpage: http://ytksummerschool.aalto.fi/
