Exchange studies
The Department of Architecture plays a significant role in promoting international mobility, both for students and for the staff. The Department participates actively in various exchange and bilateral programmes with selected schools of architecture and landscape architecture, by maintaining its own agreement portfolio. The Department has several bilateral Erasmus cooperation agreements, the Nordplus/NordArk student mobility programme covering the Nordic and Baltic architecture schools and, in addition, other mobility agreements overseas.
English taught studies at the Department consist of various master level studies offering studio, lecture and seminar courses and special programmes. Please note that all Bachelor level studies are taught only in Finnish.
Incoming Exchange Students
The Department of Architecture welcomes exchange students from its own partner schools. All exchange is based on valid bilateral agreements between the department and the school of architecture in concern. Exchange studies available consist of English taught advanced studies on master level, thus the requirement for the exchange is a bachelor's degree in architecture or landscape architecture. The acceptance is based on an individual assessment of each application.
More information on the application process and the necessary documents can be found on the Aalto student website INTO.
Internationalisation and Studying Abroad for Aalto students
The Department offers many options for its own degree students for international studies. International mobility is a natural part of students’ life at Aalto University. Students are encouraged to study or find a job abroad, or participate in English taught courses and studios at the Department or work with multicultural projects and in workshops.
Exchange studies abroad can be for one term or one academic year. In addition to an exchange between partner schools of architecture or landscape architecture, students are permitted to organize exchanges themselves. The University awards scholarships for all exchange students studying abroad under accepted terms and conditions.
An Aalto student wishing to work abroad can apply for IAESTE- and Leonardo / Erasmus traineeships. More information can be found on the Aalto student website INTO.
